| Zaha is worth splashing out on as Tottenham move into new era next season
| sbothai Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wants a minimum of £100m to spend in the transfer window after signing a new five-year contract at the club and Wilfried Zaha is on his radar, according to the Daily Mail.
Zaha has been valued at over half of £100m – £60m – by the Sun and earns £120,000 per week according to the Guardian, who also say that Spurs’ wage structure is capped at a basic weekly £100k – but they must spend big on him to signal their ambitions as they move into a new stadium next season.
The Mail claim that Pochettino wants a war chest of at least £100m to reinvigorate a squad that again failed to win silverware last season and Zaha is named among the players requested.
It goes on to say that Crystal Palace are desperate to keep the pacy wideman, who was the key to their comfortable survival despite a run of seven games without a single point at the very beginning of the season. The fact that Pochettino has signed the new deal suggests that he is content with the assurances over transfer spending. sbothai
Zaha is one of the best players in the leagueLeicester’s Jamie Vardy is just one example of how a genuinely elite player can still lurk below the monied top six in the Premier League and Zaha is another. He is a genuinely outstanding player and if he was playing like he is abroad, or in the Champions League, the excitement and clamour to sign him would be overwhelming.
It has been detailed above what a huge investment it would require from Tottenham to acquire his services but the whole point of moving to their new, improved White Hart Lane is to compete on a greater financial footing.
Zaha would be the perfect segway into that; he is not a global superstar who would cost £300k per week and immediately disrupt the dressing room or wage structure. Yet he is someone reportedly coveted by even the very best team in the country and someone who could genuinely excite the fans in North London. He is worth every penny at £60m and £120,000 per week. sbothai
